These pieces, called "flashings" are what is left when hand tools are forged at our parent company. The pictures show a few things that could be made from one or each half of one of these - fire strikers, bottle openers, even small kitchen knives. We have also made straight razor and hidden tang knife blanks - shown elsewhere on the site.
The flashings are hard enough as pictured to strike a spark on a ferrocerium rod, but ideally one would heat them to critical and quench for optimum hardness. They are also brittle, and should be normalized or heated before working. Sold by the pound-limit 5lbs due to shipping volume.
