Five generations ago, Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Co. was founded by Otto Swanstrom in Duluth, MN. Otto was awarded a patent for the first replaceable caulk (a cleat, if you will) for a horseshoe bringing better traction for the horses working in the timber industry during the bitter cold and snowy winters in Northern MN. With the close proximity to the "Iron Range", Duluth, MN became the perfect location for a growing forge shop with Diamond expanding its product offerings to horseshoes, adjustable wrenches, pliers, etc.
Fast forward to 2023, John Swanstrom incorporates Xcalibur MetalworkX (XMX) in neighboring Superior, WI next door to Swanstrom Tools. Together the two organizations share multiple forging presses, mechanical and hydraulic (up to 1000 ton), state of the art heat treating equipment and cutting edge CNC technologies bringing together traditional blacksmithing with today's modern metalforming technologies.
